Beware of Management
Review Date: 5/17/2005 Reviewer: Brandontemple2003@Yahoo.Com
I am writing this letter in the hopes that someone will please hear me. I have been harassed for several months by the Estates at River Pointe apartment complex (managed by Sentinel Real Estate Corporation) in Memphis, TN. I moved into that apartment in December, 2003. In March of 2004 I unexpectedly lost my job. I was unable to collect any type of unemployment benefits because I had previously been a graduate student for some 4 years. I have a doctorate in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, and Biochemistry so finding suitable work in my profession would require my moving outside the area. I promptly gave the apartment complex a 60 day written notice ($2,090.00) and agreed at that time to pay an early termination fee ($1,005.00), a payback of concession ($450.00), and relinquishment of my pet and security deposit ($300.00). I spoke with the manager, Teresa Green personally about this issue and agreed to make 4 payments over 4 months following my move. However, she keeps harassing me for more money ($578.62) and refuses to tell me why. Ive attempted to contact Teresa Green by phone and letter on numerous occasions, but with no resolve. I feel she has acted very unethically and very unprofessionally. If someone asked you to give them more money and refused to tell you why, would you do it? In her first threatening letter, she claimed pet damages to the carpet, but with no other damages or standard cleanliness charges. I find this odd in that my cats were limited to certain rooms of the apartment and were certainly not allowed in the closets. I simply wanted her to explain the supposed damages to me and answer my questions. I asked her to send me pictures and reports of the alleged damages to the apartment. I also requested certification of new carpeting and why patching was not and could not be done. I also requested verification of the old carpeting as to the date it was installed. From this I only received further harassing letters from her and her attorney asking for money and never responding to my questions. I am a professional, organized, and very clean woman. Money is not the only issue. What about principle? In all, Ive paid her $4,423.62. This is outrageous! I feel potential consumers of Sentinel Real Estate and The Estates at River Pointe be aware of their unprofessional managing ethics. |
